AOP Awards 2019 We are pleased to announce we were runners up in the ‘Charity of the Year’ category in the AOP Awards 2019, the optical industries leading awards. To receive this recognition as an outstanding charity is amazing. Thank you to all who voted for us.
NHS Workshops We are working with the NHS on a project aimed at ensuring new patient apps are accessibe for people with a visual impaiment. We are holding two days of one 2 one workshops, time commitment one hour, where participants will look at apps with a developer. Participants need to be visually impaired and able to use a mobile device such as smartphone or tablet. Workshop dates are Tuesday 5th & 19th February. HumanWare Demonstration. A representation from Humanware will be attending KVIN in Huddersfield, on Thursday 7th February to demonstrate their new magnification equipment. All welcome.
Kirklees Local TV will be filming KVIN to create a promotional video. Filming will take place in Huddersfield on Friday 15th february from 11am and in Dewsbury on Thursday 21st February between 12noon and 2pm. All welcome.
Living with Sight Loss Course Hosted by KVIN in partnership with the RNIB, this course provides an insight into living with and adapting to sight loss, aimed at both the visually impaired and their family members. Vision Connect is back for 2019. All your sight loss related organisations and businesses, including KVIN, under one roof. This years event is to be held on Wednesday 27th March, within Huddersfield Town Hall. the event is free to attend and runs from 10am til 3pm.
Canal Cruise In a joint venture between KVIN and VISC we are holding this social event. When- April 23rd, from 10.30-16.30 Canal cruise leaving from and returning to Mirfield Marina, with a lunch time stop off at The White Cross Pub in Bradley. Cost- £5 pp plus either cost of pub lunch or bring your own packed lunch. To book call Martin on 07974603699
Ukulele Sessions. Following the success of last years music taster workshops, one of our volunteers has arranged for fortnightly Ukulele lessons open to all. To be held every other Monday, 2pm-4pm, at the Thrive cafe, based in Connect Housing, within Dewsbury town centre. Sessions cost £10 per participant. Dewsbury Parkrun Running every Saturday, at 9am in Crow nest Park, this 5km event allows you to walk or run your way back to fitness. With prior notice guide runners can be organised to partner sight impaired participants. Potential runners should speak to the run directors either prior to the event or via the Dewsbury Parkrun facebook page.
