KVIN Monthly News Roundup: June 2021

Wow, what great weather we have been having! We hope you’ve been able to get out and enjoy it! We’ve managed to make the most of it during our walking group which has met 3 times now, we only had a bit of rain once. The walking group has been a great success with volunteers and members getting together to enjoy walks in North Kirklees, we hope to continue the group over the summer…we will post an update next month. Here’s a picture of the group who walked along Spen Valley Ringway yesterday;

The KVIN walking group in Batley, stood in a socially distanced group along a wide path with grass at each side.

KVIN is here for you if you are visually impaired and live in Kirklees or surrounding areas. We are a network of staff, volunteers and service users with visual impairments available to provide a range of support.

  • If you are feeling lonely, we can connect you with others who may be feeling lonely too.

  • If you’d like to carry on reading your favourite books, we can explain the options available for audio or reading books.

  • If you just want to know what support is available for people with sight loss, get in touch and we can help you with what YOU need.

As lockdown is easing, we are resuming our face to face services slowly. Community Champions Project

KVIN has joined Kirklees Council on its journey to increase take-up of the COVID-19 vaccination and address hesitancy surrounding it. Many of you will know from the news that Kirklees has been named as ‘an area of concern’ with recent figures showing it ranks number one out of 149 upper tier local authorities for COVID cases. The work we are doing therefore is crucial to the health and safety of our residents. Click here to read the full news item about the project.

Volunteers’ Week

Its Volunteers’ Week 2021 and all week we are taking the time to say a special thank you to our volunteer team. We couldn’t do what we do without them!

To mark the week we have a series of videos on our YouTube channel with messages of thanks from the staff team and a special podcast from our volunteer team, who explain what it’s been like volunteering during lockdown.

Please watch the videos to hear experiences and messages of thanks;
