We are really excited for this newsletter because we can finally announce our plans for reopening face to face services after these have been suspended since March 2020! You can read our KVIN Road Map post to find out more about when and where we plan to reopen. 1. OUR SERVICE
KVIN is here for you if you are visually impaired and live in Kirklees or surrounding areas. We are a network of staff, volunteers and service users with visual impairments available to provide a range of support.
If you are feeling lonely, we can connect you with others who may be feeling lonely too.
If you’d like to carry on reading your favourite books, we can explain the options available for audio or reading books.
If you just want to know what support is available for people with sight loss, get in touch and we can help you with what YOU need.
Our face to face services are suspended at the moment due to Covid-19, we continue to operate and are available for support virtually. Here’s a summary of our weekly virtual services;
- Wednesday: 11am Group Telephone Chat, 1pm Zoom Chat
Thursday: 11am Zoom Chat, 11am Group Telephone Chat, 2pm Group Telephone Chat, 2.30pm Crochet Class via Zoom
Friday: 10am Group Telephone Chat, 11am Zoom Chat, 1pm Anything Apple Group, 3pm Anything Android Group (running on alternate weeks).

2. WHAT’S COMING UP…
We have a range of additional events and groups running, the details are below;
Starting Monday 3rd May: Tai Chi. Following our successful taster session in March, there will be a further six sessions, once again led by experienced Tai Chi tutor Nicola, every Monday at 2pm for an hour, ending on 7th June. To book a place contact Claire on 07708 054245 or email@example.com.
Thursday 13th May: Volunteer ‘patient’ opportunity: find out more! Caroline and Robin from the Optometry Department at University of Huddersfield will be joining us, to explain further and answer questions about the opportunity to volunteer for their low vision clinics, to help train their students.
Thursday 20th May: Meet Michelle from Community Plus. Michelle Williams from Community Plus will join us to explain about their services and answer any questions.
Thursday 20th May: Walking Group. We are launching a new Walking Group on a trial basis for 4 weeks, which we will continue if it’s a success. The walks will be on Thursday’s, meeting at 10am, running from 20th May to 10th June. Places are limited to 6 people, if you would like to join in, contact Claire on 07708 054245 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Wednesday 26th May: Sight Loss MOT, find out more! Claire will be joining us to discuss KVIN’s new service, Sight Loss MOT, so that you can find out more about what it is, ask questions and decide if it’s for you.
Date to be confirmed for May: Quiz Night. Join our monthly quiz night on Zoom to test your general knowledge, all welcome.
3. OTHER NEWS
Success with working in partnership
Since October 2020 KVIN and SKIES rehab team have been working in partnership to deliver a range of additional activities for anyone with a visual impairment in Kirklees. As a result of this partnership we have been running weekly information sessions and a range of groups which have been enjoyed by over 40 people with visual impairments over the past months.
