At the weekend it really felt like Spring was on the way, its gotten a bit colder this week so we have to remember to wrap up warm still. But the brighter evenings certainly mean that warmer days are on the way. We have lots of events planned for March to join in with, read on form more details.

1. OUR SERVICE
KVIN is here for you if you are visually impaired and live in Kirklees or surrounding areas. We are a network of staff, volunteers and service users with visual impairments available to provide a range of support.
If you are feeling lonely, we can connect you with others who may be feeling lonely too.
If you’d like to carry on reading your favourite books, we can explain the options available for audio or reading books.
If you just want to know what support is available for people with sight loss, get in touch and we can help you with what YOU need.
Our face to face services are suspended at the moment due to Covid-19, we continue to operate and are available for support virtually. Thursday: 11am Zoom Chat, 11am Group telephone Chat, 2pm Group Telephone Chat, 2.30pm Crochet Class via Zoom
Friday: 10am Group Telephone Chat, 11am Zoom Chat, 1pm Anything Apple Group, 3pm Anything Android Group (running on alternate weeks).

2. WHAT’S COMING UP…
We have a range of additional events and groups running, the details are below;
Wednesday 10th March: Louie Voice Control App. Pramit Bhargava, the creator of the Louie Voice Control app which enables visually impaired users to use popular apps with just voice commands, will join us to demonstrate the app and answer questions.
Thursday 18th March: Taira Technology. Taira Technology is a caring, family run business that helps visually impaired people with their technology by providing specialist products and services.
Thursday 25th March: Keeping Safe from Scams – Doorstep Crime. Safina from the West Yorkshire Trading Standards Safer Project will join us for a second time to provide further information on how we can keep safe from scammers, this time concentrating on doorstep scams.
Wednesday 31st March: KVIN meets Alice the ECLO. Alice Elliot will join us to share an update on Eye Clinics and Low Vision clinics and update on what services are available at the moment.
Date to be confirmed for March: Quiz Night. Join our monthly quiz night on Zoom to test your general knowledge, all welcome.
Thursday 8th April: Meet Bev from Kirklees Transcription Service. Bev Healey will join us to talk about the services they provide including KR Talking News, a free weekly audio newspaper providing news, views, interviews and features from around Kirklees.
Tuesday 6th April: Talking Book Group. Join Phil to share your recent reads to inspire others to try different books and find out how to continue to read with sight loss.
3. OTHER NEWS

Over the past few months we have been working alongside S2R who have been delivering some activities for us due to funding from The National Lottery Community Fund. We’ve been able to have an Aromatherapy Course and a series of Yoga sessions especially for our service users with visual impairments. We’ve really enjoyed working in partnership with S2R and look forward to working with them in the future, in the meantime we have a schedule of their activity available in accessible format to find out what else they are doing, you can book on anything you are interested in.
