Walking back to normality

In May and June we launched our Walking Group and it was fantastic to make those first steps towards meeting in person and some sort of normality.

We still had to wear masks and sanitise our hands to keep safe, but it was fantastic to be able to get out!

Thanks to a team of newly recruited Sighted Guides we were abe to support 6 members on each walk so that they could enjoy local places yet again, the sun came out on most walks too!

Heres what some of our members said;

‘Thank you, Claire and volunteers, for a wonderful walk.’

‘Thank you so much to all the wonderful guides who made todays walk possible…had lots of fun catching up with everyone and it wasn’t half as soggy as I was expecting.’

‘Absolutely fantastic, thanks all :-)’

‘I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the walk this morning on the Greenway near Heckmondwike thank you very much for arranging this for us all it was nice seeing everybody again and meeting new people like my sighted guide who was an excellent guide, and I thoroughly enjoyed her company.’

‘I’ve really enjoyed all the walks I’ve been on. It’s been lovey to get to know some of our new volunteers, thank you for giving up your time to make it happen.’

‘It’s been a pleasure to be involved and thanks to Claire for organising us and that we have some more opportunities to practice our sighted guiding.’

The walking group is continuing in August for 2 walks and then will be full back from September. If you would like to join in, please get in touch. Anyone with a Visual Impairment who can get to the meeting points we are welcome to join in and we are always looking to recruit more volunteers who would like to train as Sighted Guides.
